About this website
ThirtyDayProject.org was designed and developed by Andrew Wicklander, the founder of Ideal Project Group, in Chicago, Illinois. A lot of people and businesses had an impact on the creation of this website; some through their inspiration and generosity, others with their direct help, and still others because their companies make great tools and provide an awesome service. Please take a moment to read about them and how they helped to make this website happen.

Derek Sivers

Derek inspires a lot of people, and this website exists because he had the idea to give away the first follower idea on his website. Thanks for the inspiration Derek.

Andrew Dubber

This website is an implementation of Andrew Dubber's fifth idea, a 30 day numberless calendar in his series of 30 ideas in 30 days where he gave away an idea every day for a month. Andrew is a great writer and by following his blog and twitter feed, I feel as if I've been introduced into another world altogether. A world I like very much I might add.

Dave Hoff

Dave is one of the co-founders of IMified which was acquired by Voxeo where he now works. Dave gave me the encouragement to develop the site and taught me how to use CSS. He's a really great guy and every site that I build from this time forward will be in part because of a dinner conversation I had with him. I'm really glad I know Dave, and he's changed me for the better.

Jeff Cohen

Jeff is the co-founder of Purple Workshops a small business that teaches developers the beauty of Ruby on Rails. He usually teaches .Net developers in larger organizations how to make the transition to Rails, but he was kind enough to give me one on one tutoring so that I could make this site. Without Jeff, I don't think this website would have been made.

Adam Kalsey

Adam is another one of the co-founders of IMified and he also now works at Voxeo. Adam helped get me up and running with git, helped me understand how it works, and helped get me to the point where I could easily share and deploy my code. He saved me what was sure to be many migraines and I really appreciate his help.

Seth Godin

Seth Godin is a popular author, blogger, and all around inspiring guy. His influence is deep in this site, and is evident in everything from the url structure, where users are referred to as artists, to the icons I chose on the main calendar page. The idea of sharing ones work, and the importance of "shipping" comes directly from his latest book linchpin. If you haven't read this book, you should go buy it and then come back to this site.

David Heinemeier Hansson

David is a partner at 37signals and he created the Ruby on Rails framework that was used to build this site. After building Basecamp, the awesome web based project collaboration tool, David extracted some of it's code to make Ruby on Rails, and then open-sourced it - giving it away for free. It's easier to be a developer today because of David and his generosity.

Ryan Singer

Ryan is the lead User Interface designer for 37signals. I was struggling a bit with the user's dashboard page and this video of a talk he gave about "Designing with Forces" was very helpful. I don't know that Ryan would approve of the design, but I do know that it's better than it would otherwise have been because of the lessons he shared in this video.

BeeDocs

The introduction video on the home page with the timeline was created using Timeline 3D, a mac software application created by BeeDocs. If you find yourself needing to tell a story that happens over a period of time, you'll want to check it out.

graphicriver

All the icons on this site came from graphicriver, and the ones used on this site were created by someone in their design community named ashiver. If you're in need of icons for a project, be sure to check them out.

Heroku

Heroku makes it insanely easy to deploy Rails applications. I have no idea how it works, and it's kind of like magic to me, but it's really awesome and their support is fantastic.

The first followers

A few people were inspired enough to join this little project and ended up creating their own 30 day projects so that there would be something to look at on this site when it first launched. Read about all of them below.

Cheryl Sterling

Cheryl is a guru with all things fabric and owns her own business called Sterling Fiberarts. She took self portraits of herself for 30 days and they're really awesome. You can see her project here.

Deb Walsh

Deb helps musicians, artists, and other creative people get the word out about their art. She's also an awesome piano player and singer and made music every day for thirty days. It's beautiful. Be sure to check out her project.

DJ Phillips

DJ is a hilarious guy who makes a lot of jokes and great music too. DJ wrote, played, and recorded a new song every day for thirty days and is posting them on his blog. They're great and you should listen to his music.

Joan Lee

Joan wrote regularly about this site on her blog, Into the Zenith, while it was being built. She also provided some initial colors that I built off of for the visual appearance. Joan is keeping track of everything she eats for thirty days and you can check out her project here.

Simon Fowler

Simon decided to do a really interesting project that is outlined on his blog. The summary of it though is that he's going to choose one relationship and do something every day for thirty days that improves his relationship with that person. Very cool.

Aaron Brown

Aaron blogs at MootPt. and is known as Mr. Voxious in placed like CD Baby and MySpace. He's still trying to figure out what to do every day for thirty days but he stuck with us through the project and I'm glad he did.
